The CVMA has committees and task forces that address statewide veterinary issues and build leadership skills. Committees usually meet once to twice a year, usually at the CVMA office in Sacramento. Committee members are appointed by the CVMA president. The CVMA provides committee members with transportation to and from the airport, a breakfast snack, lunch and a reimbursement of up to $100 to CVMA members for airfare. Below is a list of the current CVMA committees and task forces:
Agriculture Committee
Explores and suggests solutions of food animal-related issues.
Allied Industry Committee
Nurtures the relationships between the CVMA and its allied industry partners.
Animal Welfare Committee
Addresses animal welfare issues.
AVMA Advisory Committee
Seeks individuals from California to serve in AVMA positions and develops suggested policy that can be passed along to the Board of Governors as needed on issues of importance at the AVMA.
CVMA Certified Veterinary Assistant Committee
The responsibility of this committee is to oversee the CVMA CVA credentialing program with the purpose of increasing the number of RVTs.
Disaster Preparedness Committee
Works with other animal support groups, animal welfare organizations, and governmental agencies to ensure the most efficient and effective emergency response network to preserve animal life and to provide emergency care during a disaster.
Finance Committee
Reviews and recommends the CVMA annual balanced budget to the Board of Governors for approval; makes recommendations on financial policies or procedures to the treasurer and/or Board for implementation.
Legislative Committee
Reviews and recommends positions on all legislative activity of the CVMA.
Registered Veterinary Technician Committee
Promotes career enhancement and further development of the delivery of veterinary care; reviews and recommends the RVT of the Year in Private Practice Award, the RVT of the Year in Non-Private Practice Award, and the Outstanding DVM of the Year Award.
Ways & Means/President’s Council
Reviews CVMA Constitution and Bylaws, Policy Manual and award nominations.
